  LOST GARDENS > Where are the Gardens of Khajuraho?
The temple city of Khajuraho and the gardens of Rajnagar lie in the central Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. Rajnagar is five kilometres from Khajuraho. It can be reached easily by car, bicycle or on foot. Rajnagar is a small village, but in former times it was a prosperous town where the Maharajahs and other members of the nobility liked to stay (Rajnagar means King’s Place).

Getting to Khajuraho

By planeBy plane: The easiest way to reach Khajuraho is by plane. There are regular flights from Delhi, Agra and Varanasi (Benares).
From the airport you can take a taxi to Khajuraho. The centre of Khajuraho is about five kilometres from the airport.

By planeBy train: Khajuraho rail station is still under construction. The nearest stations are Harpalpur (94 km) and Mahoba (61 km). Jhansi (172 km) is the station for travelers from Delhi and Channai (Madras). Satna (117 km), on the Bombay-Allahabad line, is the station for travelers from Bombay, Calcutta and Varanasi.

From the different train stations you can take a bus to Khajuraho.

By planeBy bus: In India buses are plentiful and relatively cheap. There are regular connections with the cities of Satna (117 km), Harpalpur (94 km), Jhansi (172 km) and Mahoba (61 km). However, you may have to spend many hours on the bus.

From Khajuraho to Rajnagar

The distance from Khajuraho to the Gardens of Rajnagar is less than five kilometres. The road is quiet and beautiful, ideal for a pleasant walk. Alternatively, you can hire a bicycle or take an auto-rickshaw in Khajuraho.
